Debby Andersen is an Ayurvedic Practitioner and Yoga Therapist with over 10 years of clinical experience specializing in Women's Health. As the co-founder of the Roha Institute of Ayurvedic Living and Hamsa School of Yoga and Ayurveda, she blends the wisdom of Yoga and Ayurveda into a practical, modern-day path of self-discovery and healing. She fell in love with yoga in 2005 while living in India, where she was also introduced to yoga’s sister science, Ayurveda. She completed her first yoga teacher training in India in 2006, and went on to study Ayurveda with Dr. Vasant Lad in Albuquerque, NM and Pune, India. Other teachers she has studied with include David Elliott, Dr. Claudia Welch, and Francisco Kaiut.
Debby is a NAMA-registered Ayurvedic Practitioner and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist. She is registered with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT 500 and YACEP, and is a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She is based in San Antonio, Texas.
Debby discovered the healing power of yoga while traveling in India in 2005. It was then that she also discovered yoga’s healing roots in Ayurveda. She spent time in an ashram immersed in an Ayurvedic lifestyle and the practices of yoga. She especially grew to love pranayama, yogic breathing practices, and emphasizes the breath in her teaching.
Debby maintains a private practice in the healing tradition of Ayurveda, a system of holistic medicine that is native to India and shares with Yoga the same philosophical background and understanding of the body, mind, and spirit. Yoga is a path of awakening through realization of the true self, and Ayurveda supports this path through aligning the body and mind with the healing qualities of the natural world around us, removing the dis-ease that is so often an obstacle to freedom.
